Thinking about college? For 21 years I have been guiding families from Ulster County, Dutchess County, Manhattan and now, Brooklyn, through this often-confusing time. Together we approach applying to college as a relaxed and enjoyable process.

“I said it once and I’ll say it again! You are a lifesaver.”
—Jolie Peters, New School, 2014

The college application process should be a time for introspection and growth for each student. Unfortunately the pressure begins earlier and with more intensity than it has in past years. Students and their families are bombarded with advice, rumors and misinformation. At times the college search can become a competition, instead of a quest for young people to find colleges where they can thrive and develop into mature adults.

“I started working with Nancy when I was in the seventh grade and wanted more of a challenge in my writing curriculum. Her creativity helped push my interest to continue to pursue writing. As I got older, she helped me prepare for the SAT and ACT in addition to my college applications. I am now an English major and intend to have a concentration in Creative Writing.”
—Kelley Hartman, Hobart William Smith College, 2016

Junior and senior years are important in the growth of every young person, physically, emotionally and intellectually. I have created a process that is encouraging that growth, and in which more than test-taking skills and the proper essay format are learned.

“Nancy has guided three of our four children through the college process so far. It is a part of our family expectations by this time that each student will spend a year under her tutelage. She teaches so much more than SAT or college essays and applications. She helps families keep all of this tension in perspective and is comforting to anxious parents. Our youngest has been on her waiting list for a few years and is only now entering 9th grade! We wouldn’t want him to miss out on working with her.”
